ATTENDANCE POLICY: You are expected to attend all labs. There is no direct grade penalty for missing a lab, however I offer you a friendly but strong warning that from past experience the indirect penalty for missing a lab is usually severe. The student who misses a lab should not be surprised for the grade for that lab to be much lower than originally expected. This adverse effect is observed even if lab notes are obtained from someone else in the lab.
CHEATING: Be aware that any form of cheating in this lab will result in my implementing a formal process for failure for the course. (Be aware that this penalty has been officially implemented in this course in the recent past.) During a test, please be sure that no notes, lab manual, text, electronic device, or ear phones are accessible.
COURTESY: Please respect your classmates by not disturbing them. For example, please COMPLETELY TURN OFF all phones and other electronic devices while in lab. Using your phone or other electronic device is a distraction to others, to me, and to yourself, and this is not reasonable during class. Turn it off! No eating during lab. Thank you for your cooperation.

Supplemental
Reading Assignment |
LAB NOTES:
a) Your laboratory grade counts twenty-five percent (25%) of your final course grade.
b) Your lab grade will be based on a combination of lab tests, lab reports, as well as the supplemental reading assignment.
c) In general, each lab will be worth 20 lab points. A lab test (or a substitute assignment) worth 10 lab points will be given at the beginning of each lab on the preceding lab, and a lab report (or a substitute assignment) worth 10 lab points on the preceding lab will also be due at that time.
d) Lab tests will consist of questions in different formats, depending on the material.
e) The lowest lab test score and the lowest lab report score will be dropped out of the twelve labs, giving 220 lab points.
f) The supplemental reading assignment due May 6th, 7th, or 9th, depending on your lab section, is worth 50 lab points.
g) Your final lab grade will be a percentage score based on the total of 270 lab points, i.e., your lab grade will be (lab points earned)/270. (If your lecture professor prefers to have your lab grade based on 250 points out of a total of 1000 course points, instead of a lab percentage score, then your lab score will be 2.5 times your lab grade average, e.g. a lab grade of 86% would be worth 2.5 times 86 equals 215 points out of 250.)
h) Note that the supplemental reading assignment counts 50/270 = 18.52% of your lab grade.
i) The lab schedule and lab test schedule are subject to change.
j) You may take a makeup test for any lab test you miss during the course at the end of your last lab of the course, i.e., when the class has finished with the supplemental reading oral presentations. However, a lab report turned in a week late will incur a penalty of 5 points and will not be accepted after that.
k) A person arriving late for lab has missed the lab test if the first lab
test paper has been handed in already.
